Blue Fire-
Great game today! Amanda got our first goal of the season with an assist from Emily Nay. We kept the pressure on the offense the first half of the game; and Hazel Ann had several goalie saves with help on the defensive end. This was our first game playing full 30 minute halves with subbing "on the fly". This is something I as a coach will continue to work on taking girls out as they begin to "run out of gas". The second half we played more defense; Shannon had several saves and the other team had many close looks at our net. We came away from the game feeling good about what we did "right". The girls agreed they need to spread out more, look/call for the pass, take more shots at the goal. The ref offered a bit of advice which we can work on as well. We will need to continue to work on "throw ins" (keeping the back foot down and not turning the ball over). Also on throws in, we need to spread out and get open. We will work with our goalies & defensive players on "goalie kicks". That will move the ball further upfield and that will work to our advantage. I told the girls I was proud of the effort today. It was an exciting game and fun to play against the other "Prairie friends" team. They did a great job for our first Premier game. I am expecting great things for the rest of the season!

Game #2 Highlights
Our goalies did a super job keepin' the score down. Each girl had several saves per quarter. Shannon got our team's only goal of the game with an assist from Rachel (with several brilliant passes by the team). Final score 1-4.
We'll get 'em next time.

Game #1 Highlights
We looked good out there Saturday! Everyone was revved up and ready to play. The girls rallied with a 4-2 win. Madison got the first goal of the season in the Forward (offense) position with an assist from Megan (left mid). Samantha scored in the second period (left mid) with an assist from Olivia (center mid). In the third period, Samantha got on in (center mid) from an assist by Rachel (left mid). Shannon had a crowd pleasing header as well. We actually are practicing these unexpected bumps to the head. And finally Carly got our fourth goal in the fourth period (center mid) with an assist by Amanda (right mid).
In practice we were concentrating on playing within their ZONE and looking for good passes, not just lucky random kicks at the ball. The girls need to PLAY with PURPOSE. That was our mantra of the week. They will need to start making quick decisions while on the field and using some new maneuvers to move and pass the ball.
Side note: The girls continue to practice hard. Please have your daughters wear their hair up in a pony tail to practices and games. It shows me they are prepared and ready to play. Thanks.

Welcome back, Spring Soccer 2012
Looking forward to our first soccer practice on Monday, March 19 at Prairie Park 5:00-6:30.
Please have your daughter wear soccer "practice" clothes, shin guards, & soccer cleats. Also have her bring a size 4 soccer ball and a water bottle. Practice is one and half hours. All paperwork, schedules & patches will be handed out after practice on Monday. Finally, have your player think about areas in which she would like to improve her soccer skills and/ or personal goals for the season. Looking forward to seeing all our young soccer starlets.

Thank you for a great season
Thank you for the wonderful breakfast goodies you provided to celebrate the end of our Fall soccer season. The girls really enjoyed the delicious spread.
Matt and I also wanted to thank you all ever so much for the very thoughtful and generous gift certificates. We will think of you when we are dining at Five Guys (which we love) and shopping with the AMEX gift card.
We just wanted to let you know that we had a great time coaching the girls this season. They all improved their soccer skills and were a lot of fun to watch on the field. Our hope is that the girls take responsibility for their "own" soccer success (win or lose). We are looking forward to the indoor and Spring '12 season to continue our momentum with the team.
